SUMMARY:October 16th Technical Dinner: Strategic Façade Retrofit Assessments: Early Design Approaches for Aging Façade Precast Systems
DESCRIPTION:Presenter:\nEdlyn joined Stantec in 2019 as a Senior Façade Consultant. With over 18 years of experience\, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to building science with a bioclimatic lens due to an architecture background\, a master’s in environment and bioclimatic design\, and a specialty in facade analytics. She is an expert in facade design\, thermal modeling\, daylighting\, shading optimization\, dynamic condensation risk assessment\, environmental comfort\, and envelope code compliance. Edlyn has also taught in architecture schools on subjects that include sustainability\, passive strategies\, façade performance\, and building energy. \nSynopsis of Presentation:\nThis presentation examines three façade retrofit case studies involving precast panel systems that have been in service for over 50 years. Each project demonstrates a tailored early design approach that balances client goals\, thermal performance\, and the preservation of existing façade systems’ remaining functionality. From a hospital mid-rise case study to commercial high-rises\, the studies examine a range of retrofit strategies\, varying from selective window replacement to curtain wall systems. It is supported by parametric energy modeling\, in-person assessments\, structural evaluations\, and collaboration with contractors. Attendees will gain insight into how early-stage analysis and interdisciplinary coordination can guide effective retrofit decisions for aging façades. \nLearning Objectives:\n1. Identify key factors influencing early façade retrofit strategies including thermal performance\, structural integrity\, and client-specific requirements. \n2. Compare retrofit approaches across different building types and conditions\, from partial upgrades to full system replacements. \n3. Understand the role of technical tools and assessments such as parametric energy modeling\, thermal analysis\, and determining selective demolition in shaping retrofit recommendations. \n4. Recognize the importance of early collaboration with façade contractors and structural teams to ensure feasibility and performance alignment in retrofit design. \nRegister Today!\nEvent Flyer \nSponsorship Opportunities \nTabletop Sponsorships | Bar Sponsorship
